Gold Goblet

This gold goblet is interesting because it has been soldered in several parts creating a bell in the bottom. It is part of the Pereshchepina Treasure and was found with 11 other similar goblets in the Poltava Region of the Ukraine dating to sometime in the 7th century AD (well within Kana Subigi Kubrat's Bulgar Khanate). Depicted on the sides of the goblet are floral decorations and the whole goblet stands 10.3 cm in height. The bell was probably rung not only to amuse revelers, but was also used to drive away evil spirits and bring in the good ones at special occasions.
