Senmurv

This Sassanid silver gilt dish (19.3 cm in diameter) from the 7th Century AD depicts Senmerv, the Goddess of Fertility. Senmerv was worshipped as such throughout the ancient world at that time and was popular amongst nomadic horsemen cultures because of her connection with 'The Tree of All Seeds' or 'Tree of Life'. In some imagery, she is depicted as being a 'Bird Dog' goddess with different aspects of nature tied to her. Fertility was important to various nomadic peoples and those who lived by their herds, since their flocks were considered their wealth and sustenance.
