Gold Vessel of the Bulgars

This gold vessel is one of 23 found in the region of Banat (modern Hungary) near the village of Naggy Sent Miklos. It has been dated to around 800AD and has a Bulgar warrior depicted on its sides. The victorious Bulgar carries the traditional spear, wears chain mail, and has below him a captured enemy from battle. Back in 800AD, the region of Banat was within the Bulgarian Empire. It is further possible that this vessel may have belonged to one of Kana Subigi Krum's boylar (Bulgar nobles) since Krum came to power in the 790s.
